COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Supreme Court has ended constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years — a decision by its conservative majority to overturn the court's landmark abortion cases.
Friday’s outcome overturning Roe v. Wade is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.
Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) and the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“This bipartisan legislation is the culmination of strategic efforts and leadership from the Congressional Black Caucus and underscores the historic nature of our efforts to stem the tide of gun violence in our communities.
After Friday’s celebrations at Goodale Park, the festivities continued Saturday with Stonewall’s Pride March at Broad and High Streets, moving north on High Street to Buttles Avenue and landing at Goodale Park.
More than 17,000 people took the streets downtown for the march that was in the Short North arts district for the first time since 2016.
Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2543, the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion and Economic Justice Act, a package of thirteen bills focused on promoting racial and economic justice throughout the financial services sector.
As President Biden reportedly closes in on a plan of partially canceling student debt, the pressure on the administration is mounting to ensure that Black borrowers, who are disproportionally saddled with student loans, will be helped.
On the 2020 campaign trail, now President Joe Biden won over the hearts and votes of many by promising to forgive up to $10,000 in student loan debt per person.
Now, as he gets closer to making a decision on just how much forgiveness he’s willing to give, the Congressional Black Caucus is dialing up the pressure on the President to show Black borrowers some grace.
Professional men’s attire is available through a new “legacy” shop at IMPACT Community Action. The Otto Beatty Jr. Men’s Shop provides men recovering from the economic impacts of the pandemic with professional clothing, grooming services and educational resources.
The Beatty family, along with the Franklin County Commissioners and IMPACT Community Action representatives, opened the shop on Monday, honoring Otto’s legacy with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) on Monday called for Congress to take action in the wake of the fatal shooting of 10 people in Buffalo, N.Y., over the weekend, saying that “thoughts and prayers are not enough.”
“I am horrified to see another devastating act of hateful gun violence in America. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the thirteen innocent people who lost their lives due to this tragic hate crime,” Beatty said in a statement on Monday.
“Judge Jackson has a demonstrated record of excellence. I believe, based upon her work as a trial judge when I served on the Court of Appeals, that she will adjudicate based on the facts and the law and not as a partisan.”
