Congresswoman Beatty Statement on the Death of Tyre Nichols

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement regarding the death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis Police Department officers: 

“My heart goes out to Tyre Nichols’ mother, Ms. RowVaughn Wells, and his family as we mourn his loss. I join others across the nation in being disturbed by the gut-wrenching videos of Tyre Nichols’ brutal death at the hands of law enforcement. We must hold those who are sworn to protect and serve to the highest level of accountability.

“Mr. Nichols was a beloved father, son, friend, and coworker who should still be alive today. We cannot continue to cope with these devastatingly horrific deaths by law enforcement. I stand with Memphis and communities across the nation in their call for justice.”
