Congresswoman Beatty Marks Black Women's Equal Pay Day

Today, August 22, 2019, is Black Women's Equal Pay Day, the day black women will have to work from 2018 and into 2019 to make what white men made in 2018 alone for the same job. As a strong supporter and advocate for equal pay, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"For every dollar a white man earns, a black woman earns merely 61 cents. If the current trend continues, it will be over 200 years before black women achieve equal pay. This Congress, House Democrats furthered our ‘For The People' agenda by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help to eliminate the wage gap between men and women. I call on my colleagues in the Senate to take up the mantle of equal pay and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, so this can hopefully be the last year we have to mark Black Women's Equal Pay Day."
