Reps. Beatty, Sewell Celebrate Bama-Buckeye Wager by Tackling Hunger

January 27, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC — Following the University of Alabama's impressive win over The Ohio State University in the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) and U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) stood together on the Capitol steps recently to honor their wager on the final results. Beatty donned crimson, paired with a houndstooth hat in the style made famous by revered Crimson Tide coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, and did her best rendition of ‘Roll Tide.' She will also make a donation to the West Alabama Food Bank in Northport, Alabama, and Team Beatty will also make a contribution to Thrive D.C.

"Although my beloved Buckeyes came up slightly short in their quest for college football's ultimate prize, the team's accomplishments are still extremely impressive," Beatty said. "While I may not be happy with the outcome of the game, I am happy Congresswoman Sewell's and my friendly wager will not only help feed families in need but also highlight the critical importance of foodbanks." She added, "I can't wait until next season because the Buckeyes will be back. OH!"

"It was a hard-fought game between the top teams in the nation, and I am so proud of my Crimson Tide for securing a victory and bringing home our 18th national title! My dear friend Congresswoman Beatty was a great sport as she yelled, ‘Roll Tide!' from the steps of the Capitol," Sewell said. "This was a win-win for my district since our bet also benefitted the great work of West Alabama Foodbank in helping needy families and addressing the critical issue of food insecurity exacerbated by the COVID-19 Pandemic. I look forward to continuing the friendly rivalry with Congresswoman Beatty. Roll Tide!"
