Rep. Joyce Beatty, House Democrats Introduce New Bill To Stop Musk From Invading Americans’ Privacy

February 7, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03), joined House Democrats to introduce the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which would ensure that only trusted public servants, not Elon Musk and his minions, can access the personal information of Americans. This bill would stop people without a security clearance from accessing our highly sensitive Treasury Department payment system, which encompasses Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Congresswoman Beatty issued the following statement regarding the bill’s significance:

“Elon Musk’s takeover of the federal payment system is a dangerous power-grab that jeopardizes your personal information and privacy, and we’re acting now to stop it,” said Congresswoman Beatty.  “This legislation is a direct response to Musk’s shameful invasion of Americans’ privacy. The Taxpayer Data Protection Act takes a critical step in keeping the Trump Administration and Musk Minions from rifling through the private data of everyday Americans, combatting a MUSK-MAGA hostile takeover.”

If passed, the Taxpayer Data Protection Act will curb Trump-endorsed corruption, protect the privacy of hard-working Americans, and safeguard our Treasury Department’s financial system.
