February 11, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-03), issued the following statement on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's appointment of Dr. Susan M. Collins as their next President. This July, Collins, a noted economist with extensive experience in government and academia, will become the first woman of color to lead the bank.

"Dr. Collins is not only the first woman of color to lead the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston but she is the first woman of color to lead any of the Federal Reserve's twelve regional branches. She has proven herself to be a more than qualified candidate through her record as an international macroeconomist and a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the American Economic Association, the Ford School, and the University of Michigan.," said Rep. Beatty.

Rep. Beatty added, "Furthermore, her commitment to engaging with consumers and advancing economic stability, opportunity, and prosperity throughout the Boston region and nation makes her an exceptional choice for this role. As the Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion, I have spent the better part of the last decade calling for increased diversity within our central bank, and I can think of no better candidate to finally break that particular glass ceiling than Dr. Collins."
