March 13, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement on the passing of Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07):

“I am saddened by the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Congressman Raúl Grijalva. Raúl was a fierce advocate, a compassionate leader, and a true champion for the people. His unwavering commitment to justice, from protecting our environment to fighting for immigrant families, affordable health care, and the rights of tribal communities, has left an indelible mark on Congress and the nation.

Raúl's career was defined by courage and conviction. From his early days as a community organizer in Tucson to his decades of service on Capitol Hill, he never stopped fighting for those without a voice. As Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, he led the charge to protect our nation’s natural treasures, ensuring that future generations would benefit from his leadership and vision.

I will miss his friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, his staff, and the people of Arizona as they mourn this tremendous loss. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.”
