Congresswoman Continues Call for Congressional Action to Prevent Gun Violence

On National Day of Action, Beatty lends her voice in support of House Democrats’ push to enact common sense legislation to curb America’s gun violence epidemic

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) will join fellow Democratic Members of Congress, organizations and other stakeholders to highlight the need for Congressional action to prevent gun violence.

During the National Day of Action to Prevent Gun Violence, Beatty will be sharing important information, news and facts on various media platforms to raise awareness on the gun violence epidemic plaguing our country, highlighting gun violence prevention proposals that are supported by the vast majority of Americans.

“In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., ‘We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now,’” Beatty said. “It is time we heed those words. It is long past time House Republican Leadership listen to what the vast majority of their constituents and Americans across the country are clamoring for—meaningful action to curb gun violence.”

Beatty kicked off the Day of Action last night, addressing Bexley Ohio’s City Council on June 28, 2016. There she spoke with Mayor Ben Kessler, Council President Tim Madison, the members of the City Council, and Police Chief Larry Rinehart on how to work together to curb gun violence.

In the days and weeks ahead, Beatty looks forward to continuing this all too important conversation affecting countless families in Ohio and the nation.

Last week, House Democrats staged a nearly 26 hour sit-in on the House Floor to protest House Republican Leadership’s refusal to allow a vote on bipartisan legislation to address gun violence. Beatty was among the first House Democrats to join organizers Congressman John Lewis (GA-05) and Congressman John Larson (CT-01) for the sit-in.
