Congresswoman Beatty Statement on Shootings in Baton Rouge and Falcon Heights

WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling was killed by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The following day, July 6, Philando Castile was killed by police in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. In response to these tragic shootings, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) said:

“This week’s tragic killings are a painful reminder of the heartache experienced by far too many individuals and families of color—especially young black men. Although the events in Baton Rouge and Falcon Heights remain under investigation, one thing is certain: it is time we take action on these shootings that are becoming all too common. We must join together—community leaders, the police, government at all levels, and the public to stop the bloodshed. That is why I pledge to do everything in my power to save more families from this gut-wrenching agony. My heart goes out to the families and friends of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and I hope justice prevails.”
