Congresswoman Beatty's Statement on House Passage of National Security Funding Bills to Support America’s Allies
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement on the House passage of the three supplemental appropriations bills to provide security assistance to Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific:
"Today, I voted alongside Democrats and Republicans to pass three crucial supplemental funding bills in support of democracy, human rights, and global stability. These appropriations are vital in supporting the Ukrainian people against Russian President Putin’s unprovoked war, aiding Israel in its conflict with Hamas, and safeguarding our partners in the Indo-Pacific from Chinese aggression. Additionally, the humanitarian aid included in this legislation extends a lifeline to families and children enduring unconscionable hardship in Gaza, Ukraine, Haiti, Myanmar, and other conflict zones around the world.
Passage of this national security funding package was long overdue. Ukraine has desperately needed additional defense assistance to repel Russian attacks for months now. Israel faces threats to its very existence from Hamas and Iran. Over 100 million people around the globe have been forced to flee their homes to escape conflict - the largest displacement figure the world has seen since World War II.
Around the world, our friends and foes alike are carefully watching the United States to see if we will stand up to the forces of authoritarianism or abandon our centuries-long defense of democracy. By taking this decisive action, we demonstrate America's enduring commitment to leadership on the global stage, championing the cause of the most vulnerable while defending freedom and preserving dignity worldwide. American global leadership is what it truly means to put People over Politics and America first.”
