Congresswoman Beatty Moderates Keynote Conversation During House Democrats' Issues Conference

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell serves as the 2019 keynote speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, on April 11, 2019, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) moderated an exclusive conversation—billed as a ‘fireside chat'—with the 16th Chair of the Federal Reserve System, Jerome Powell. Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion Beatty focused her questions on Powell's perspective on how the Federal Reserve's monetary policy affects Americans from all backgrounds, with respect to one's race, ethnicity, level of education, place of residency, residential status, and household and generational wealth. At the end of her one-on-one discussion, Beatty stated:

"I was especially honored to be chosen by my colleagues to moderate tonight's important conversation. I was pleased to hear Chair Powell reaffirm the Federal Reserve's independence—especially in light of the White House's unprecedented and persistent second-guessing of the Fed's decision making—and his personal commitment to diversity and inclusion."
