Beatty Salutes Selection for Secretary of Defense
WASHINGTON, D.C. —U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03), the incoming the Chair of the powerful Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for 117th Congress, issued the following statement on the nomination of Retired Four-Star General Lloyd Austin as the Biden Administration's Secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense:
"I applaud the historic nomination of General Lloyd Austin to be our nation's first-ever Black Secretary of Defense. His long history of service and unequal qualifications make him the perfect leader for our military and national defense. As General Austin and I discussed on the phone recently, we must work together to protect our people, our country, and our national security interests around the globe. I believe General Austin is the right person to do exactly that at this critical moment in time. That is why I urge the Senate to hold hearings and confirm General Austin as soon as possible so that he can get to work on day one."
