Beatty Hosts 2016 Congressional Art Competition

Event showcases the artistic talents of area high school students

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) invites high school students to participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition.

“I am excited to once again host the Congressional Art Competition,” Beatty said. “Every year, more and more aspiring artists participate, and I have no doubt this year will be even bigger and better.” Beatty continued, “This is a great opportunity for our community’s young people to showcase their amazing talents, and I look forward to welcoming the winner to the nation’s capital.”

The Competition is open to all high school students who reside in Ohio’s Third Congressional District. All entries must be original works of art and are to be submitted no later than March 25, 2016. Entries must be delivered to Beatty’s District Office at: 471 East Broad Street, Suite 1100, Columbus, OH 43215, between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The grand prize winner will be announced at a joint awards ceremony, held with Congressman Pat Tiberi’s (OH-12) and Congressman Steve Stivers’ (OH-15) district, at the Columbus Museum of Art on April 6th from 5:30 pm to 7:00pm. This summer, the winning artist will join other winners in Washington, D.C for a special reception. The winning artist also will have his or her artwork displayed inside the U.S. Capitol.

Since 1982, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have hosted the annual Competition, giving students from across the country the opportunity to highlight their extraordinary artistic talents.
