Beatty Celebrates Major Victory for Ohio Veterans with PACT Act Claims
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement regarding President Biden’s announcement that more than one million PACT Act-related claims have been granted, including claims for 31,945 Ohioans.
The Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, signed into law by President Biden in 2022, expanded medical benefits and care for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances. Millions of veterans were unknowingly exposed to toxic substances during their military service, which has led to a range of serious health problems like cancer and other chronic illnesses.
“Those brave enough to put themselves in harm's way to defend our country deserve to be welcomed home with the proper care and benefits they earned,”said Congresswoman Beatty. “In reaching this milestone under President Biden’s leadership, we renew hope for veterans suffering from the effects of toxic exposure and our promise to servicemembers that they will be taken care of once returning from the battlefield.”
An estimated 30,285 veterans reside in Ohio's Third Congressional District. From August 10, 2022, to March 1, 2024, the Department of Veterans Affairs received over 1,800 PACT Act-related benefit claims for disability payments from these veterans.
Congresswoman Beatty supported the PACT Act when it was first introduced. She has long supported our country’s servicemembers and veterans, and recently introduced H. Con. Res. 76to recognize the heroic military sacrifices and patriotism of Black veterans.
