Beatty Backs Resolution to Revoke President Trump's Emergency Declaration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.J.Res.46, a resolution that would nullify President Trump's emergency declaration at the border, by a vote of 245 to 182. After the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"Today, I joined a bipartisan coalition in voting to terminate President Trump's emergency declaration at the border. I believe this unilateral and unwarranted move is an abuse of his constitutional oath and is in direct conflict with the Constitution's ‘separation of powers' doctrine that specifically prohibits the president from using federal funds that have not been appropriated by Congress. I urge the Senate to quickly take up this resolution to ensure that no president—Republican or Democratic—subverts the will of Congress."
