(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement on voting in opposition to the Continuing Appropriations Resolution, 2014, H.J.Res. 59. Late this evening, the bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 228-199.
Joyce Beatty Statement Against Government Shutdown
On September 30, 2013 at midnight, the current continuing resolution expired, shutting down the United States government and consequently causing hundreds of thousands of middle-class workers to be furloughed immediately. This was done in a pointless attempt to stop the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA is the law of the land which has been upheld by the Supreme Court and which is being implemented to the benefit of millions of Americans.
