Help Is Here for Central Ohio: the American Rescue Plan
U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) joined President Joe Biden yesterday in Columbus, Ohio—the heart of Ohio’s Third Congressional District—for the Administration’s “Help Is Here” Tour. The multi-city, cross country event focuses on highlighting the American Rescue Plan's immediate impacf, P.L. 117-2, on hardworking Americans, small businesses, our healthcare system, and the entire economy.
As part of the Tour, Biden and Beatty visited the James Cancer Hospital Solove Research Institute to mark the 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), P.L. 111-148. One of 45 National Comprehensive Cancer Hospitals, ‘The James’ is the third largest cancer hospital in the United States and is internationally recognized for its groundbreaking work to diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. Prior to the ACA, individuals with pre-existing conditions like cancer could be denied healthcare coverage or kicked off their plan. “Because of the American Rescue Plan and the Affordable Care Act, millions of families will be able to sleep more soundly at night because they won’t have to worry about losing everything if they get sick,” Biden said.
Later in the afternoon, Beatty addressed assembled media alongside Biden, “As you mentioned (President Biden) on that historic day in 2010, the Affordable Care Act is a big deal and it still is.” She continued, “The same can be said about the American Rescue Plan. This landmark, life-changing piece of legislation meets the magnitude of the moment for my constituents. Lives are on the line, and the American Rescue Plan will put dollars into families’ pockets, get people back to work, return children and teachers safely to the classroom, improve vaccine distribution, and strengthen our economy—all while crushing the virus.” Beatty added, “Most important, the comprehensive package makes good on the Biden-Harris Administration’s and Congressional Democrats’ promise to deliver direct relief to the people and small businesses that need it most.”
