Congresswoman Beatty Urges Compassion, Collaboration During Mental Illness Awareness Week
During the first full week of October, millions of Americans, nonprofit organizations, and dedicated advocates join together to raise awareness, educate the public, fight stigma, and provide support for individuals living with mental health conditions for Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). In recognition of MIAW, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement:
"One in five Americans will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Tragically, the majority will not seek treatment because they either lack access to healthcare or are too afraid to ask for help. The mental health crisis we face will not disappear on its own; for the sake of the 44 million Americans experiencing a mental health condition every year, we must join together to fight to expand access to resources and end the stigma surrounding mental illness in this country."
