Beatty Supports Passage of the Survivors' Bill of Rights Act
On September 6, 2016, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Survivors' Bill of Rights Act of 2016, H.R. 5578, by a unanimous vote of 399-0. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
“Tonight, the House spoke as one voice. Sexual assault victims are just that—victims,” Beatty said. “As an outspoken advocate for victims of sexual assault and exploitation, I am proud to have been joined by Members on both sides of the aisle in supporting this long overdue piece of legislation.” Beatty continued, “We have taken an important step in improving the rights of victims of sexual assault and eliminating the administrative burdens placed between them and justice under the law.”
