Beatty Marks Significance of National Recovery Month
September is National Recovery Month, an annual, month-long initiative to increase awareness and understanding of substance abuse, addiction and mental illness. This year's theme is "Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger." In recognition, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) said:
"Roughly 20 million Americans age 12 and older are living with a substance use disorder, including nearly 700,000 people in Ohio alone, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Addiction and substance abuse devastates individuals and families physically, socially, and fiscally, but it is important to remember that recovery is possible. That is why we as a nation must do more to help and support our families and neighbors on the road to recovery. I call on Democrats and Republicans to come together, erase the stigma, and work to help end the addiction crisis. Together, we can make a difference."
