Beatty Calls for SNAP’s Protection, Expansion During Hunger Action Month
September is Hunger Action Month, an annual initiative to raise awareness of food insecure Americans and the organizations which help them. In support of the effort, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
“It is a travesty that in this land of plenty, we still have children and families who go to bed with empty bellies. I applaud food banks, churches, and humanitarian organizations across the country for doing everything they can to stamp out hunger, but more must be done. In Washington, I am fighting to protect and expand access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) so that families everywhere can stop worrying about where their next meal will come from. But until then, I call on everyone who is able to volunteer their time and money to donate to their local food pantry today.”
If you or a loved one are in need of food, or wish to donate or volunteer, you can find a local food bank through Feeding America’s website. Also, be sure to spread the word online using #HungerActionMonth.
