Bill includes harmful budget cuts to Defense Supply Center Columbus
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019, H.R. 5515. Immediately after the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
"I have supported every National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that has been signed into law since I joined Congress because I understand how important it is to our national security and in supporting our courageous men and women in uniform. Unfortunately, the NDAA bill the House of Representatives considered today included provisions that would direct budget cuts and reorganization of Department of Defense agencies that are located at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) and employ roughly, 6,000 workers in my district."
After working closely with the Central Ohio Defense Group as well as the Columbus Partnership, it is my determination that these proposed cuts and organizational changes would not benefit our troops and would put thousands of jobs in Central Ohio at risk of being eliminated or moved elsewhere. For those reasons, I voted against the NDAA today."
