January 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement after Congressman Steny Hoyer announced that he will not seek another term in the House of Representatives:

“Steny Hoyer has built an illustrious legacy of purposeful policymaking for over four decades in Congress. He will be remembered as one of the most respected and trusted public servants of our time, and his steadfast commitment to the people of Maryland will continue to be felt in their communities.”

“His advocacy for the American people, especially those too often underrepresented, is reflected in a record of meaningful accomplishment. From the American Rescue Plan and the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act to the Help America Vote Act, his stewardship as House Majority Leader, and beyond, has served our country well and improved the quality of life for millions of Americans. His ability to build relationships and advance critical policy with intention and care, has strengthened our democracy.”

“Steny Hoyer has long been a principled and steady leader of House Democrats, and his guidance will be deeply missed. Our country is better because of his service, and I wish him and his family every success and happiness in this next chapter.”
