(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement regarding the inclusion of two federal programs in the 2014 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.
Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) stated she is pleased that the 2014 Omnibus Appropriations Bill includes $5.67 billion for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and $485,000 for the George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program. Congresswoman Beatty looks forward to announcing funding for other vital programs as the Omnibus continues to move forward.
PEPFAR and the Global Fund support life-saving HIV treatment, prevention, and education. The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program allows American post-graduate students to pursue a year of education at universities in Ireland and Northern Ireland with a goal of educating Americans about Ireland and building ties for future generations.
"I promised to bring Washington to the District, and the District to Washington. These allocations allow me to keep the promises that I made to my constituents. To be in my first term in Congress, I am proud to assist in the continued funding of essential programs that will help save lives and promote education," stated Congresswoman Beatty.
Congresswoman Joyce Beatty has been a lifelong advocate for healthcare funding and currently sits on the national board of the American Heart Association. In addition, Congresswoman Beatty spent more than two decades working in higher education as a professor and administrator at Sinclair College and prior to being elected to Congress at The Ohio State University as Senior Vice President of Outreach and Engagement.
