Congresswoman Beatty Statement on LGBT Pride Month

Columbus, OH - U.S. Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement in recognition of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, observed during the month of June:

"During LGBT Pride Month, we celebrate the progress of a vibrant lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, which enriches the Third Congressional District of Ohio. We have made great strides toward equality and justice in the 45 years since the Stonewall Inn riots in Manhattan ignited the Gay Liberation Movement.

"In the past 5 years, we repealed discriminatory laws such as Proposition 8 and ‘Don't Ask and Don't Tell.' Last year the Supreme Court made a groundbreaking decision to grant couples, regardless of sexual orientation, the same legal protections as heterosexual couples. While we celebrate how far we have come, challenges in discrimination, inclusion, and marriage equality remain.

"This LGBT Pride Month let us celebrate the progress we have made and recommit ourselves to delivering equality for all."
