Beatty Opposes Republican Attempts to Delay Implementation of the Affordable Care Act

(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement regarding her opposition of the latest Republican attempts to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) voted against the two bills intended to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA): H.R. 2667, Authority for Mandate Act, and H.R. 2668, Fairness for American Families Act. H.R. 2667 passed by a vote of 264-161. H.R. 2668 passed by a vote of 251-174.

H.R. 2667 would codify the Administration's July 2nd announcement to delay the ACA's requirement that businesses with 50 or more full-time employees/equivalents provide health insurance to their workers or pay a penalty for one year.

H.R. 2668 would delay the requirement in the ACA that individuals buy health insurance or pay a tax penalty for one year. Today’s votes represented the 38th attempt by House Republicans to repeal all or part of the ACA, which was enacted in 2012.

Thanks to the ACA, Americans already are seeing lower healthcare costs, better insurance coverage, and greater access to care. Since its enactment, 105 million Americans have already received preventive services, including 71 million Americans in private health plans.

“The constant barrage of Republican bills to obstruct the implementation of the Affordable Care Act creates nothing but confusion for the American people. Delaying the individual mandate only undermines the ACA and will prevent the 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions from gaining coverage.”

“Furthermore, delayed implementation will also end the guarantee that women will pay the same premiums as men for the same coverage while increasing out-of-pocket costs for all Americans.”

“Instead, I will vote to protect comprehensive healthcare reform that improves access to affordable coverage and guarantees that millions of citizens will finally be able to receive quality health care.”
