Congresswoman Beatty Opposes Legislation to Help Ultra-Wealthy Tax Cheats
First bill under the new Republican majority is designed to allow tax cheats to avoid paying their fair share
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ bill to rescind $72 billion in funds allocated in the Inflation Reduction Act to help the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) hold ultra-wealthy tax cheats accountable and make the agency work more efficiently for hard-working Americans:
“It is disappointing, though not at all surprising, that Republicans’ first order of business this Congress is passing legislation to cut IRS funding to protect their own political interests and ultra-rich tax-cheating friends. While billionaires keep taking advantage of a broken system to evade paying taxes, it is honest taxpayers who are left to foot the bill. Republicans should be working to improve efficiency at the IRS for hardworking middle-class families rather than making it easier for their donors to skip out on paying their fair share.”
