Congresswoman Beatty Named to Joint Economic Committee

Committee responsible for reviewing current economic conditions and recommending improvements in economic policy

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Yesterday, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) was named one of six Democratic Members to serve on the Joint Economic Committee by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA). In response to her appointment, Beatty issued the following statement:

“I am honored to be joining the Joint Economic Committee and am ready to get to work on making sure our economy works better for everyone. Right now, 80 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, wages are still not keeping up with inflation, the racial wealth gap continues to grow, African-American unemployment is nearly double the national average, and the Republican tax bill is causing our deficit and national debt to implode. Congress must get serious about addressing growing economic inequality and putting our economy on sound fiscal ground. I look forward to working with my colleagues to find bipartisan solutions to these and the many other pressing economic issues facing our country.”

One of four standing committees in the United States Congress, the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was created following passage of the Employment Act of 1946. Members of Congress and Senators serve on the Committee, and chairmanship alternates between the Senate and House every Congress. During the 116th Congress, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) will serve as JEC chair.
