Beatty disappointed in Supreme Court Ruling on Shelby County v. Holder
Ruling strikes down key provisions of Voting Rights Act of 1965

(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling on Shelby County v. Holder, striking down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“I am extremely disappointed and saddened that the U.S. Supreme Court would strike down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Today, the Supreme Court gutted one of America's most important civil rights laws. In a 5-4 decision, the Justices limited the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965, which Congress passed during the height of America's volatile civil rights movement. Congress should not waste time in passing legislation that will ensure that every American has a fair voting process.”
