Congresswoman Beatty Continues Strong Support of Equal Pay

WASHINGTON, DC – In recognition of Equal Pay Day, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement:

"Over half-a-century since President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law, it is troubling that we continue to have a pay disparity between men and women. On average women are making 78 cents for every dollar a man makes, with women of color earning far less, at 64 cents.

On this Equal Pay Day, a day that symbolizes where at approximately 3.5 months into the year, women's wages finally catch up to what men were paid in the previous year, I call on elected officials and leaders to ensure that hard-working women receive fair compensation for their work. Congress should act by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, H.R. 1619, a bill that I proudly cosponsored and support. We know that when women succeed, America succeeds, and paying women fairly is one step toward unlocking our national success and growth for all families."
