Congresswoman Beatty Announces Millions for Local Senior Housing

February 7, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.— This week, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded National Church Residences a $4,971,176 Section 202 grant for the construction of supportive housing units for at-risk Central Ohio seniors. Located in Ohio's Third Congressional District, National Church Residences is dedicated to ‘bringing quality to everyday life' by integrating housing, healthcare, and other supportive services for area seniors and their families. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"We made a solemn promise to our seniors that they would be able to live their Golden Years to the fullest. However, for many that is not the case—as some 67,000 seniors are homeless in our nation, including 1,000 in Ohio. These desperately-needed federal funds will help increase affordable housing options and holistic care, so that more seniors receive the well-rounded care they need and deserve."

Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program expands the supply of affordable housing with supportive services for senior citizens. Grant monies provide very low-income elderly individuals with options that allow them to live independently but in an environment that provides support activities such as cleaning, cooking, and transportation.
