Beatty Votes to Keep Government Open

WASHINGTON, DC – Tonight Congress passed legislation to fund the government through December 9th. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty issued the following statement:

“With only two days to spare, I am relieved Republicans have finally gotten serious about funding the government. We all witnessed the financial implications of the Republican-led 2013 shutdown that cost our economy more than $12 billion. Today’s bill is far from perfect—I would have liked to see dedicated resources for the families in Flint—but this piece of legislation represents an important bipartisan victory, providing more than $1 billion to combat Zika and ensuring the government’s doors remain open until December 9th. However, it is as critically important that we work together during the lame duck session to find a long-term solution to fully fund the government.”
