Beatty to Participate in U.S. House Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program

Program places qualifying veteran to handle casework in her Ohio office

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) announced today that her Office will participate in the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program. Administered solely by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Program provides employment and career transition opportunities in Congressional offices to wounded and disabled veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

"Congress has an obligation to ensure our veterans, their families, and survivors receive the benefits they have earned and deserve. When our servicemembers transition back to civilian life, it is important that they have the tools and resources necessary to thrive and excel," said Rep. Beatty. "I'm proud to participate in the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program to provide a unique employment opportunity to a qualifying Veteran and in turn and look forward to having the benefit of their exceptional skillset and experience to address the casework needs in my Ohio office."

The Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program was established by the House of Representatives in 2008 to create employment opportunities for Veterans in congressional offices. Fellowships last up to two years and provide Veterans with experience and exposure to broaden career opportunities.

The position is for a Veterans Case Worker in the Congresswoman's District Office, located in Columbus, Ohio. Primary responsibilities are to facilitate and coordinate responses to a wide range of requests received from Veteran, military and related spouse and dependent constituents. The case worker will also serve as a liaison between the Office and the various Veterans', military and related organizations throughout the congressional district of the Office. The Veteran Case Worker will help constituents interface with administrative and government agencies, in many instances by acting as facilitators, ombudsmen or advocates. The case worker would also be responsible for keeping the Office up-to-date on related issues and any pertinent systemic problems.

Interested Veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001 should visit www.cao.house.gov for more information. Required application items include a resume, a copy of the last DD214 issued (page 4) and a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicating a 30% or greater disability rating (not necessary if medically retired). Items should be submitted directly to housewoundedwarriors@mail.house.gov. Any other submissions will not be acknowledged.
