Beatty Statement on President Trump's Immigration Address
On January 8, 2019, President Donald Trump delivered a national address from the Oval Office on the ongoing government shutdown and his insistence for more than $5.7 billion in taxpayer funds to build a border wall along the entire Southern border of the United States. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
"Despite the Trump administration's assertion that there is an illegal immigration 'crisis,' the fact is that border-crossing arrests at the Southern border are at historic lows. This begs the question: why is the White House deliberately misleading the American people? The answer is simple. President Trump is irrationally determined to build his political wall, even though his core campaign promise was so soundly rebuked in the November elections."
