Beatty Statement on Ongoing ICE Deportations

COLUMBUS, OH–In the wake of multiple news reports highlighting the Trump Administration's new stance of deporting individuals and families who previously escaped violence and death in their homeland, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty issued the following statement:

"From nations across Africa, including Mauritania and Somalia, to Latin and Central America, countless families have found refuge in Central Ohio—escaping violence and persecution for freedom and the promises of America. That is why I strongly oppose any attempt at tearing these families apart and sending parents, grandparents, and children back to a life of bondage or even worse. Our community is vibrant and stronger because of them, and their plight is another example of why Congress must take immediate action to fix our broken immigration system."
