Beatty Statement on Independence Day Observance
COLUMBUS, OH – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement on the observance of America's Independence Day, celebrated annually on the 4th of July:
"Today, we celebrate the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the beginning of an audacious experiment, American democracy. We gather this weekend with families and friends, neighbors and strangers, in celebration of our history and our vibrant diversity that continues to drive our country's success and prosperity.
"Our nation was born out of the idea that out of many we are one, e pluribus unum. Our struggle to create a country that is for all, fair and free from discrimination, has been laid bare in recent weeks with the racially-motivated heinous murders of the Charleston Nine. In the face of adversity, trials, and tribulations the American spirit of fairness and democracy for all will prevail, and hopefully someday soon we will be united without regard to race, religion, gender, or any other differences.
"On this day, it is my hope that we reflect on our nation's founding, our growth, and continue to aspire for a more perfect union for all. "
