Beatty Statement on Failure of Republican Farm Bill Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a bipartisan basis (198-213) to defeat the House Republicans’ Farm bill. Immediately after the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

“At a time when nearly half of all American families cannot afford basic necessities, I believe we should be strengthening critical federal programs that help hardworking families make ends meet. Unfortunately, the House Republican Farm Bill did the exact opposite, putting more than 400,000 hardworking families at risk of losing food assistance. Not to mention, the bill threatened to limit access to school meals for hundreds of thousands of our nation’s children. Now that it is clear that Republican Leadership does not have the votes to pass their version of the Farm Bill—which the Senate had already indicated was a non-starter—I urge my Republican colleagues to finally sit down with House Democrats to craft a truly bipartisan Farm Bill that supports all communities.”
