Beatty Statement in Opposition to Republican Budget
Budget passes by a close vote of 216-212, paving the way for Republicans' tax cut plan for wealthiest Americans
WASHINGTON, DC – On October 26, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to concur to the Senate amendment to H.Con.Res 71, establishing the budget for the federal government for fiscal year 2018. Immediately after the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
"Today, House Republicans turned their backs on hardworking Americans by voting to give a $1.5 trillion budget-busting tax cut to the super wealthy, while at the same time gutting Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion, slashing Medicare by almost $500 billion, and decimating programs that help veterans, seniors, students and families. Instead of pushing President Trump's ‘Billionaires-first Tax Cut Plan,' Congress should work together to create a level playing field so that all Americans can have better jobs, better wages and a better future."
