Beatty Recognizes the 80th Anniversary of Social Security

August 14, 2015

Keeps 22 million seniors out of poverty

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement in recognition of the 80th Anniversary of Social Security, which was signed into law on August 14, 1935:

"I join the nation in celebrating Social Security's 80 years of public service. Since 1935, Social Security has touched the lives and provided an economic lifeline for millions of people. The program serves nearly 60 million Americans including almost 150,000 residents of Ohio's Third Congressional District. Six out of 10 seniors rely on Social Security for the majority of their income. I will continue to work to strengthen and protect our nation's Social Security system which protects our most vulnerable citizens."
