Beatty to highlight stroke awareness and prevention in May to promote HR 123

Columbus, Ohio – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty joined Nationwide Children’s Hospital staff and patients for a roundtable to discuss pediatric stroke. The event was moderated by Nationwide Children’s CEO Dr. Steve Allen and was attended by the Rep. Beatty, doctors who treat pediatric stroke, and patients who are stroke survivors.

Rep. Beatty, a stroke survivor, introduced H.R. 123 that would make May National Stroke Awareness Month. To help prevent stroke and increase awareness, Rep. Beatty will kick off an advocacy campaign on stroke prevention with a roundtable discussion and tour of pediatric trauma center where stoke victims would be treated.

In addition, Congresswoman Beatty will continue to discuss the issue with experts and the public alike to increase awareness. Throughout the month of May, Rep. Beatty’s office will be issuing a stroke prevention fact per day to help promote prevention and awareness.

Congresswoman Beatty, “Hearing from other survivors today was a reminder that information and knowledge of the warning signs, access to cutting edge treatment, and continued investments in research will allow individuals and caretakers to prevent stroke and treat it effectively and efficiently when it does occur.”

Beatty will be posting facts on awareness and prevention on her Congressional website throughout May at www.beatty.house.gov.

Rep. Beatty represents the Ohio 3rd Congressional District that is wholly contained within Franklin County and includes the state’s capital, Columbus.
