Beatty Kicks Off August Jobs Tour

Month-long focus on jobs, economy, and education

COLUMBUS, OH – U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) will kick off her August jobs tour on Tuesday, August 12. Throughout the tour, Beatty will hear from employers and employees and provide an update on Congressional activities.

"Report after report shows that Central Ohio is an ideal location to start a business and raise a family," said Beatty. "We are great at providing quality higher education, creating jobs, and opening up opportunities, but we can do more. I look forward to engaging on these important issues with employers and employees throughout this District work-period."

A survey by Thumbtack released in July, 2014 ranked Columbus as the easiest city in Ohio to start a small business; it also found that Columbus' training and networking programs are the best nationwide. Forbes magazine recently declared that Columbus is best city for working mothers based average income, access to affordable day care, and commute times.

While Ohio's Third Congressional District has a lower unemployment rate than the nation, 4.3% and 6.7% respectively, more can be done to create high-quality jobs.

"There are still too many people who are underemployed and unemployed, too many in need of workforce development, and too many families that fall in the gap without SNAP," said Rep. Beatty.

Beatty will engage on employment opportunities and reducing obstacles to job creation during her August jobs tour. She will also ask tough questions-- how can we do more or build more partnerships that help Central Ohio families.

Throughout the District Work Period Beatty will visit a number of employers for her jobs tour, including:

  • OSU Medical Center, James Cancer Hospital
  • Christopher Reeves NeuroRecovery Network, OSU Medical Center
  • St. Stephen's Community House, Project AquaStar
  • Privit Healthcare, with Rep. Steve Stivers
