Beatty Expresses Strong Support for Equal Pay Day
Women continue to earn only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in honor of Equal Pay Day, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement:
“A woman on average earns only 79 cents for every dollar a man makes, and this disparity is even worse for a woman of color. This is totally unacceptable,” Beatty said. “Worse still, at the current rate, the pay wage gap will not close for another 100 years. We cannot wait another 100 years.” Beatty continued, “This Equal Pay Day, let us once and for all close the pay gap between men and women by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, H.R. 1619, because we know when women succeed, America succeeds.”
Every year, in April, our nation recognizes Equal Pay Day. The day symbolizes, now four months into the new year, when women’s wages finally equal men’s wages from the previous year. To learn more about equal pay, please visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s website.
