Beatty Delivers for Central Ohio in Time for the Holidays

Secures over $18.5 million for healthcare facilities, transportation projects, community centers, workforce training, and other projects throughout Franklin County

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congresswoman and Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Joyce Beatty (OH-03) joined bipartisan colleagues in passing a historic omnibus appropriations package for Fiscal Year 2023 (H.R. 2617). Included in the legislation was $18.5+ million in funding for fifteen community projects located in Franklin County.

“I am tremendously proud to have secured key federal dollars for community projects that will directly benefit the people of Ohio’s 3rd District,” said Beatty. “Over the past year, my office has worked closely with community stakeholders to determine where investment would be maximized across Franklin County, and today that work finally bears fruit. Over $18.5 million is set to go to protect the most vulnerable, provide more economic opportunity, and improve quality of life in our communities. These funds are proof that Democrats don’t just promise, we deliver.”

Specifically, Beatty secured the investment of:

  • $510,000 for A Kid Again, Columbus, OH for increasing access to therapeutic events for children, including the purchase of equipment
  • $4,500,000 for the Battery Innovation Laboratory and Education Center at the Ohio State University
  • $750,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio - J. Ashburn Jr. Boys & Girls Club Renovations
  • $1,585,000 for the City of Reynoldsburg - East Main Street Phase II
  • $1,000,000 for Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority for informational and financial resources to assist residents and achieve economic self-sufficiency
  • $1,000,000 for Directions for Youth & Families - Crittenton Community Center
  • $2,000,000 for Franklin County - Ferris Road Corridor
  • $975,000 for LifeCare Alliance for facilities and equipment
  • $3,000,000 for Rickenbacker Area Mobility Center
  • $475,000 for Service! Relief Effort for Hospitality Workers for job skills training and supportive services
  • $400,000 for the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio Outreach and Education at OhioHealth
  • $650,000 for the Solar Workforce Training Lab
  • $500,000 for The Edna Building Renovation
  • $204,800 for the National Veteran Memorial and Museum Operating Corporation, Columbus, OH for graduate-level instruction to veterans, including scholarships
  • $1,000,000 for Zora's House

Other legislative priorities contained in the omnibus bill include:

  • $388 million to create 21,500+ affordable housing units for low-income families, survivors of domestic violence, veterans, and the elderly and disabled.
  • A $500 increase to the maximum Pell Grant award.
  • A record $118.7 billion to provide medical care to our nation’s veterans.
  • The first funding increase for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) since FY10 with $299 million, +$25 million over FY22.
  • $700 million for Violence Against Women Act prevention and prosecution programs, a 21% increase over the previous year.
  • $207 million, $27 million over FY22, each for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
