The Franklin County sheriff's office and county commissioners agree that deputies need body cameras. But there is disagreement over the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Black man Friday by a SWAT deputy — and now over who should handle the independent investigation into the incident.

On Friday, Dec. 4, media reported on the scene of an officer-involved shooting involving the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the US Marshal’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Task Force, and 23-year-old Casey Goodson Jr., a Black man.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-OH 3rd District, said Monday in a statement that she is "at a loss of words over the killing of Casey Christopher Goodson, Jr."
