TIMELINE: Officer stopped OSU attack in less than 2 minutes
COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) - Officer Alan Horujko, 28, stopped the attack on Ohio State University’s campus in less than two minutes on Monday.
Ohio State University officials thanked the efforts of all first responders who all helped to stop the attack before OSU student Abdul Razak Ali Artan could injure more people.
“I want to thank our first responders who did a remarkable job. There was amazing coordination and the speed at which these people were able to come together...think about what this tragedy could’ve meant," Governor John Kasich said during a news conference.
Horujko fatally shot Artan when he failed to comply with orders.
9:52 a.m. – Emergency call to alert the car on campus had hit pedestrians. The driver, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, then got out of his vehicle and began stabbing pedestrians with a butcher knife.
9:53 a.m. – Officer called out shots fired. Officer Horujko engaged Artan, who was shot and killed after not complying to put down his weapon.
9:55 a.m. – First Buckeye Alert was issued. The messages sent out across campus read, "Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College."
11:30 a.m. – Campus lockdown was lifted. OSU Emergency Management lifted the shelter in place. All classes were canceled for the remainder of the day.
Congresswoman Joyce Beatty praised the alert system the university uses, saying it helped save lives.

“The alert system, what was so incredibly unique and lifesaving. Students got that message and acted appropriately. Thank you for planning and being prepared,” Beatty said in a news conference.
Kasich announced the university will be will reopen on Tuesday.
"We are a strong, tough, resilient community. Ohio State will be stronger having come through this," he said.
