Senate panel approves new designation for veterans memorial

A Senate committee approved a bill Thursday co-sponsored by Republican Sen. Rob Portman and Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown that would designate the Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus as the National Veterans Memorial and Museum.

The full Senate needs to approve the bill. The same bill passed the House last November. The House version was co-sponsored by Reps. Steve Stivers, R-Upper Arlington and Joyce Beatty, D-Jefferson Township, and former Republican Congressman Pat Tiberi of Genoa Township.

The memorial will honor Ohioans who have served in the military.
