Near East Side Post Office Has Reopening Date

The Mount Vernon Station post office located on the near east side of Columbus and serving Olde Towne East and King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhoods has a reopening date.

"Operations will resume at the Mt. Vernon Retail Unit Thursday, September 10, 2020" as stated in a press release obtained this afternoon by Columbus Underground from USPS Spokeswoman Naddia Dhalai.

The location had closed temporarily on June 12, 2020 due to the air conditioning unit not working properly. The post office reopening took three months.

The closure of this post office has received a flurry of media attention, letters to the editor, and attention from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, over the past couple of weeks.

P.O. Box customers will be able to resume mail pickup at Mt. Vernon beginning Thursday, September 10, 2020.

"The Postal Services apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused however the safety of our employees and customers is our top priority."

Mt Vernon Retail Unit, the post office for the near east side, is located at 327 N. 20th St., Columbus, OH 43203.
