Congresswoman Joyce Beatty elected Congressional Black Caucus Chair
Representative Joyce Beatty (D -OH 3rd District) was elected by her colleagues Thursday to be Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
The announcement comes after Beatty easily won her reelection bid in the Nov. 2020 election.
The congresswoman was previously Vice-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. This past summer, addressed the country during the "Get Your Foot off Our Necks" Commitment March in Washington D.C.
"I am here representing the Congressional Black Caucus—54 members—who understand that silence is not an option, because Black people face a symbolic chokehold every time we walk, speak up, shop, jog, drive and, yes, breathe," said Beatty in support of the The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act act the march. "We must tear down the walls of injustice."
Beatty has represented Ohio's third congressional district since 2013.
