Rep. Joyce Beatty has received the 2016 Public Leadership Education Network Mentor Award.

Beatty, D-Jefferson Township, received the award earlier this week. It’s given each year to national leaders who are committed to empowering women in the public policy arena.

“I am humbled to have my name included among the distinguished list of previous and current Mentor Award recipients.” Beatty said. “I will never forget those who paved the way for me, and will continue to do all I can to see that more women and girls have the opportunity to pursue and achieve their dreams.”

The organization is the only one with the sole focus of preparing college-aged women for leadership roles in public policy. Founded in 1978, PLEN seeks to increase the overall number of female public policy decision makers.
