Beatty Addresses the Importance of the USPS

August 19, 2020

U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty talked about the importance of maintaining the U.S. Postal Service Tuesday afternoon.

The #DontMessWithUSPS press conference was held at the Oakland Park Station Post Office located at 2200 Innis Road.

Beatty urged Ohioans to send letters and make phone calls to their State Representatives.

"Let them know they can't delay our Democracy," Beatty said.

She also urged residents to purchase stamps, saying it will help USPS' deficit. She added that she was going into the USPS branch to purchase five books of stamps.

Beatty was joined by Rep. David LeLand (D-Columbus) and Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin.

Rep. LeLand pivoted to the USPS drop box issue. He was also critical that Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose won't allow more than one absentee ballot drop box per county.

Beatty isn't the only elected Ohio official asking the Trump administration to delay their changes, Attorney General Dave Yost sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting that changes to the United States Postal Service be delayed until after the November election.

About an hour after Beatty's press conference, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said he is halting some operational changes until after the November election.
